Samson Young
For his research at FLACC, Samson Young has been looking at the various objects that's been classified as 'bells' (cloche) in the collection of the Royal Africa Museum in the city of Tervuren. With the help of FLACC the artist aims to collect photographs, sketches, and 3d models of a small selection of these objects. This open-ended research is interested in questions concerning the rules of engagement of institutional acquisitions, issues of cultural ownership, and its relationship to a colonial past. He is interested in musical instrument classification systems. More specifically, he is looking for misfits - glitches in the system's logic resulting in objects that 'fall through the cracks'.
