OPEN HUIS geeft een overzicht van de jaarwerking van FLACC aan de hand van werken, ontwerpen, maquettes, schetsen en documentatie van de kunstenaars die zich aan het huis verbonden in 2007. OPEN HUIS vindt plaats van 27.01.2008 tot en met 10.02.2008. Tijdens het gebeuren wordt ook het jaarboek van FLACC voorgesteld dat alle kunstenaarsprojecten uitgebreid vermeldt en illustreert. De nieuwe publicatie bevat teksten van Patrizia Dander, Koen Deprez, Guido Goossens, Jean Bernard Koeman, Piet Mertens, Alien Oosting, Karin Peulen, Bart Rutten, Christophe Van Gerrewey, Jan Van Woensel en Francis Zelck.

Samen met Cultuurcentrum Genk stelt FLACC een overzichtstentoonstelling voor van het werk van de Genkse fotograaf ohnny Harsch (1929 – 2005), Het archief van deze documentaire fotograaf is zo uitgebreid dat het een huzarenstuk was om een selectie te maken die representatief is voor de betekenis van de fotograaf in de regio. Ludo Thijs (FLACC) en Pool Andries (Fotomuseum Antwerpen) gingen samen met de familie van Harsh door de tienduizenden foto's en maakten een selectie die de verschillende aspecten van zijn werk tonen. Zo krijg je persfoto's te zien van de mijnstaking, van verschillende politieke hoogtepunten uit de nationale en internationale geschiedenis maar ook sportfoto's, industriële fotografie en landschapsfoto's. De tentoonstelling is een samenwerking tussen het Cultuurcentrum, de Dienst Cultuur, FLACC en de erven Harsch.

LEZING YRA VAN DIJK
‘Blank Spaces in Moving Modern Poetry’
Wat maakt een gedicht tot een gedicht? Niet het ritme, niet de taal, maar de lege plekken die het gedicht omringen vormen het enige definitieve onderscheid tussen proza en poëzie. Dat wit rond het gedicht is geen pure leegte, maar 'leegte die ademt' en volgeladen is met betekenis. De visies van Stéphane Mallarmé, Maurice Blanchot en Paul Celan - auteurs die hebben nagedacht over de blik op de afwezigheid - kunnen als de 'leeswijze' dienen voor het typografisch wit. Die leeswijze wordt door van Dijk toegepast op het werk van de vier misschien wel grootste Nederlandstalige dichters: Leopold, Van Ostaijen, Nijhoff en Faverey. Na de interpretatie van het typografisch wit dat hun gedichten omringt en doordringt, benoemt van Dijk tien mogelijke functies van het wit. Op deze wijze onderzoekt ze iets wat zelden aan de orde is gekomen bij poëziebeschouwers: 'het dierbare lichaam zijn van een gedicht', in de woorden van Nijhoff. Achter dat lichaam, de visuele vorm van het gedicht, blijkt meer betekenis schuil te gaan dan je zou denken. Yra van Dijk doceert hedendaagse Nederlandse literatuur aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Zij promoveerde met een proefschrift rond de betekenis van de typografische witwaarde in hedendaagse poëzie en publiceerde ‘De leegte die ademt.’ , uitgeverij Vantilt,2006
‘Tussen Woord en Beeld’ is een lezingenreeks in FLACC, georganiseerd in het kader van een onderzoeksproject uitgevoerd door de afdeling Grafisch Ontwerp van de Media en Design Academie Genk samen met het Instituut voor Onderzoek in de Kunsten van de Associatie K.U.Leuven

Studenten van tien kunstscholen in acht Europese landen hebben op een gemeenschappelijk thema gewerkt: de relaties tussen kunst met bewegend beeld en performance. Preselecties en een eindjury hebben geleid tot een tentoonstelling met meer dan dertig deelnemers. Passage mag zich dan ook het eerste Europees Forum van deze aard en omvang noemen. De Beursschouwburg in Brussel, Contour en nOna in Mechelen bundelen hun krachten om al dat jonge talent te kunnen tonen: video’s, installaties en performances. Een bijkomend aspect van samenwerking is dat acht kunstenaars hun werk verder hebben ontwikkeld in FLACC.

RECEPTIEVE WERKING
Momenteel werkt Maria Blondeel in FLACC aan de reproductie van 36 blauwdrukken uit project G (1995). Verder maken ook Alexandra Crouwers, Sarah Michielsen, Sarah Van Marcke, Hans van Dijck, Bert Colla, Jan Sneyers, Sarah Michielsen en Jan Ruymen gebruik van de FLACC-faciliteiten.

OPEN HOUSE gives an overview of the activities carried out by FLACC last year, presented through works, designs, models, sketches and documentation of the artists who collaborated with the workplace in 2007. OPEN HOUSE takes place from 27 January to 10 February 2008 (inclusive). On the occasion of the event the FLACC yearbook will be launched, in which all projects are described and illustrated extensively. In cooperation with Cultuurcentrum Genk FLACC presents a retrospective of the work of the Genk photographer ohnny Harsch (1929 – 2005). The archive built by this documentary photographer is so extensive, that it has been quite a feat to make a selection that is representative of Harsch's importance in the region. Ludo Thijs (FLACC) and Pool Andries (Fotomuseum Antwerpen) have been browsing through the tens of thousands of photos, together with Harsch's family, and have come up with a choice showing the different aspects of his work. There will be press photos of the miners' strike, of several political highlights in national and international history, but also sports pictures, industrial photography and landscapes. The exhibition is a collaboration between the Cultuurcentrum, the department of Culture, FLACC and the Harsch heirs.

‘Blank Spaces in Moving Modern Poetry’
What makes a poem a poem? Not the rhythm, not the language, but the empty spaces surrounding the poem. That is the only definitive way of distinguishing prose and poetry. The white space around a poem is not pure emptiness, but 'breathing emptiness', pregnant with meaning. The visions of Stéphane Mallarmé, Maurice Blanchot and Paul Celan - writers who reflected on viewing absence - may serve as the 'reading method' for interpreting the typographical white. This reading method is applied by Van Dijk to the work of what may well be the greatest poets to write in Dutch: Leopold, Van Ostaijen, Nijhoff and Faverey. Having interpreted the typographical white that surrounds and invades their poems, Van Dijk gives ten possible functions of this white. In this way she investigates something that has seldom been discussed in debates on poetry: 'to be the beloved body of a poem', in Nijhoffs words. The body, the visual form of a poem, appears to hold more importance than one would think. Yra van Dijk teaches contemporary Dutch literature at the University of Amsterdam. She obtained her doctorate with a thesis on the meaning of the typographical white in contemporary poetry and published 'De leegte die ademt' (the emptiness that breathes), published by Vanthilt, 2006.
‘Tussen Woord en Beeld' (between word and image) is a series of lectures in FLACC, organised as part of a research project carried out by the Department of Graphical Design of the Media en Design Academie Genk, together with the Instituut voor Onderzoek in de Kunsten of the Association K.U. Leuven.

Students of 10 art academies in 8 European countries have worked on the same theme: the relationship between art and moving images and performances. Via pre-selections and a jury an exhibition was created with over thirty participants. Passage may therefore call itself the first European Forum of this nature and size. The Beursschouwburg in Brussels, Contour and nOna in Mechelen join forces to be able to show all this young talent: videos, installations and performances. Another aspect of this collaboration is that eight artists have further developed their work in FLACC.
