Dompel je onder in het werk van Marie Zolamian. Op vrijdag 28 oktober rijdt er een bus vanuit Luik, via Hasselt naar Genk om daar het werk Symbiocene van Marie Zolamian te bekijken en te bespreken met de kunstenaar en all-round Jester Tine Deboelpaep. Na een lunch, aangeboden door Jester, vertrekken we naar Antwerpen om daar het grote mozaïek Welkom - bienvenue - welcome - willkommen te bezichtigen. Ook opent het nieuwe publieke werk van Lili Dujourie, nog een reden om mee te gaan.

Archive Event VI

Jester kunstenaar Miriam Sentler toont haar werk bij Looiersgracht 60 in Amsterdam

Tijdens haar residency bij Jester en Emile van Dorenmuseum onderzocht kunstenaar Miriam Sentler de werking van natuur in relatie tot de mijnindustrie. Ze richtte zich op de natuurlijke geluiden die historisch in de mijnen te vinden waren en op hun toepassingen voor de industrie, waaronder hun culturele betekenissen. Dit onderzoek leverde materiaal op voor Sentlers nieuwe audio-installatie The Forest Underground, ontwikkeld in samenwerking met componist Drake Stoughton. Het duo liet zich inspireren door de geluiden en de akoestiek van de kolenmijnen, en door de geluiden van vogels, krekels en bomen die de mijnwerkers vergezelden. In hun nieuwe werk componeren Stoughton en Sentler een quasi-fantastisch, trans-historisch geluidslandschap van dat 'ondergrondse bos'. Miriam Sentler en Drake Stoughton presenteren het werk in ontwikkeling op 29 en 30 oktober, tijdens Archive Event VI, dat onderdeel is van Looiersgracht 60's Archive Series. The Forest Underground wordt getoond naast twee eerdere projecten van Sentler waarin geluid als manier van archivering van landschappen centraal staat. Je bent van harte uitgenodigd om ​op 29 oktober het gesprek te volgen tussen Miriam Sentler, Drake Stoughton en Jester's curator Alicja Melzacka. Het publieksprogramma begint om 16.00 uur met de performance Cairban – A Contemporary Shark Hunt van Sentler en Sadie Hale. 7 November staat in het teken van het werk van twee Belgische kunstenaars: Marianne Berenhaut en Martine Canneel. Na een mooie samenwerking van voormalig CIAP en C-mine met Berenhaut eind 2021, die resulteerde in een tentoonstelling in Genk en een publicatie, spreekt Jester-curator Alicja Melzacka hierover in LUCA Gent, in het kader van de MINIMA DOCTA lezingenreeks. Aanvullend zal Noëlle Koning spreken over het werk van haar moeder, Martine Canneel. Het gesprek wordt gemodereerd door Jeroen Laureyns. De voertaal is Engels.

Kom op zondag 20 november naar Jester op C-mine en neem deel aan het speciale programma voor kinderen op de nationale Kinderkunstendag geïnspireerd op het werk van Marie Zolamian. In de ruimte, naast Zolamians bijzondere werk en onder de creatieve begeleiding van Fee Veraghtert kunnen kinderen van elke leeftijd meewerken aan een groot kunstwerk dat aan het einde van de dag als een grote assemblage wordt getoond.

Kom naar Jester op 11 december voor een namiddag vol presentaties op het programma. Het is de laatste dag om het monumentale schilderij van Marie Zolamian te bezoeken. Hiernaast presenteren we de residentieprojecten van een aantal kunstenaars uit het CIAP en FLACC programma die we dit jaar feestelijk afsluiten. Vier met ons mee in 2023 van start gaan met het nieuwe Jester programma.

Embrace your aesthetic being with the work of Marie Zolamian! On Friday, October 28th, a bus leaves Liège, picks up passengers from Hasselt, and makes its first stop in Genk at our Jester space in C-mine. There, we have time to look at the work Symbiocene and talk with the artist and all-round Jester, Tine Deboelpaep. After a complimentary lunch, we'll drive to Antwerp to visit the large mosaic Welkom - bienvenue - welcome - willkommen that Zolamian created for KMSKA. We also toast on the new public sculpture by Lili Dujourie, which opens on the same day.

Archive Event VI

Jester artist Miriam Sentler presents her work at Looiersgracht 60 in Amsterdam

During her residency at Jester and Emile van Dorenmuseum this summer, artist and researcher Miriam Sentler has been exploring the agency of nature in the context of the mining industry. She focused in particular on the natural sounds, which were historically found in the mines, and on their applications for the industry and their cultural meanings. This research provided material for Sentler's new audio installation 'The Forest Underground', developed in collaboration with composer Drake Stoughton. The duo has been inspired by the sounds and the acoustics of the coal mines, where the voices of birds, crickets, and trees were heard on a daily basis, accompanying the miners. In their piece, Sentler and Stoughton compose a quasi-fantastical, transhistorical soundscape of that 'underground forest'. Miriam Sentler and Drake Stoughton will present their work in progress on the 29th and 30th of October during Archive Event VI, which is part of Looiergracht 60's Archive Series. 'The Forest Underground' will be displayed alongside two past projects by Sentler, which also focus on sound as a way of archiving landscapes. Join us on October 29th for a conversation between Miriam Sentler, Drake Stoughton, and Jester's curator Alicja Melzacka. The 7th of November is devoted to the work of two Belgian artists: Marianne Bernehaut and Martine Canneel. Following the memorable collaboration between former CIAP and C-mine with Berenhaut at the turn of 2021-2022, resulting in an exhibition in Genk and a publication, Jester curator Alicja Melzacka is invited to speak about the project at LUCA Gent, as part of the MINIMA DOCTA lecture series. Additionally, Noëlle Koning will speak about the work of her mother, Martine Canneel. The conversation is moderated by Jeroen Laureyns. This event is held in English.

Come on Sunday the 20th of November to Jester at C-mine and take part in the special program for kids, inspired by the work of Marie Zolamian! In front of Zolamian's giant painting, we create a big assemblage of smaller paintings on a large surface. Let yourself be inspired by the landscape of Genk. Fee Veraghtert accompanies all children in their creative endeavours of the day. The workshop is held in Dutch.

Join us for the last event of the year! Come to Jester on Sunday the 11th of December, we have an afternoon full of presentations on our programme. It is the last day to visit Marie Zolamian's monumental painting. Alongside, we present the resident projects of some of our artists from the CIAP and FLACC programme, which we festively finalize. Celebrate with us before we launch the new Jester programme in 2023!
