Open call Self-Sustaining Creative Economy Award

Kunstenaars Núria Güell en Levi Orta lanceren de Self Sustaining Creative Economy Award. De award wil de sociale waarden van de artistieke creatie bevorderen en verspreiden binnen het domein van het maatschappelijk nut. De open call is voor projecten binnen Europa en omvat een prijs van € 9.500 voor de uitvoering van het winnende project. De award is een samenwerking tussen de kunstenaars, Arts Santa Mònica (Barcelona) en FLACC.

- De wedstrijd staat open voor alle in Europa gevestigde collectieven met interesse in het onderwerp.

- Onder “Self-sustaining creative economy”-project valt elk initiatief dat artistieke creativiteit benut voor een economisch doel met sociale toepassingen, zonder specifiek door een kunstenaar bedacht hoeven te zijn. Deze projecten moeten pogen sociale ontwikkelingsstrategieën te herdefiniëren buiten de in Europa gangbare economische en financiële regelsystemen om.

- Bij de keuze van de winnaar wordt rekening gehouden met volgende elementen: de sociale impact van het voorstel, de werkingsvrijheid ten opzichte van de gangbare economische en financiële regelsystemen en de conceptuele en theoretische samenhang van het project.

- Elke deelnemer moet een projectdossier in het Engels indienen met daarin een beschrijving (maximaal 2 pagina's lang) van het project die hij/zij wenst uit te voeren, een samenvatting van het project, een begroting met een uitsplitsing van de kosten en een presentatie over de geschiedenis en achtergrond van het collectief of het initiatief, samen met de nodige contactgegevens. Al deze informatie dient in Pdf-formaat via e-mail te worden verzonden naar application@flacc.info.

- De termijn voor het indienen van voorstellen loopt van 17 november tot 23 december 2015.

- De jury zal eerst 5 finalisten selecteren waaruit het uiteindelijke winnende project zal worden gekozen. De finalisten zullen via e-mail of telefonisch op de hoogte worden gehouden. De gegevens van de finalisten zullen ook op de websites van de kunstcentra die de wedstrijd ondersteunen gepubliceerd worden. De jury kan aanvullende informatie van de 5 finalisten vragen om zo een beter begrip van de projecten te krijgen.

- De winnaar wordt bekend gemaakt op 16 januari 2016.

- Het winnende project zal ook creatieve en theoretische ondersteuning krijgen van kunstenaars, specialisten op het gebied van sociale kunst en een in Degrowth gespecialiseerde econoom. Zij zullen optreden als begeleiders bij de uitvoering van het winnende project.

- De leden van de jury zijn Jaume Reus (directeur van Arts Santa Mònica), Núria Güell en Levi Orta (de kunstenaars die de award hebben opgericht), Dídac S. Costa (eco-socioloog en specialist in sociale economie) en Luuk Nouwen (artistiek leider van FLACC).

- De beslissing van de jury is definitief.

- Bij de voltooing van het project zal een publieke presentatie gehouden worden om het hele implementatieproces te illustreren.

- De kunstenaars en deelnemende centra behouden de rechten van reproductie van het winnende voorstel van de Self-Sustaining Creative Economy Award (en daarvan afgeleide resultaten) om te gebruiken binnen de artistieke activiteiten van Núria Güell en Levi Orta en de centra die de award bevorderen.

- Deelname aan deze wedstrijd impliceert de aanvaarding van deze regels.

- De voorstellen moeten worden ingediend in het Engels.

Open Call Self-Sustaining Creative Economy Award

With the aim of promoting the values of artistic creation and extending them into the sphere of social utility, the artists Núria Güell and Levi Orta have launched Europe’s Self-Sustaining Creative Economy Award, with a prize of 9,500 euros going towards implementation of the winning project.

- The contest is open to all Europe-based collectives with an interest in the subject matter.

- “Self-sustaining creative economy” projects shall be taken to mean any initiative, not necessarily artist-conceived, that harnesses artistic creativity for an economic purpose and has social applications. These projects must attempt to redefine social development strategies outside of the economic and financial systems that control Europe.

- The following will be taken into account when selecting the winner: the social impact of the proposal; freedom of operation in relation to economic and financial controls; and the conceptual and theoretical coherence of the project.

- Each participant must submit a project dossier, which must include a description (maximum 2 pages long) of the project they wish to implement, a project summary, a budget with breakdown of costs and a presentation on the history and background of the collective or initiative, including contact details. All this information must be sent via email in PDF format to application@flacc.info.

- The submission period for proposals is from 17 November to 23 December 2015.

- The panel will first select 5 finalist projects, from which the overall winner will be chosen. The finalists will be informed via email or telephone. Details of the finalists will also be posted on the websites of the arts centres supporting the contest. The panel may request additional information from the 5 finalists in order to gain a better understanding of the projects and thereby select a winner.

- The winner will be announced on 16 January 2016.

- The winning project will also receive creative and theoretical support from the artists, in the form of specialists in the field of social art and a specialist in degrowth economy who will act as tutors throughout the implementation of the winning project.

- The panel will consist of Luuk Nouwen (artistic director of FLACC), Jaume Reus (the director of Arts Santa Mònica), Núria Güell and Levi Orta (the artists who founded this award) and Dídac S. Costa (eco-sociologist and specialist in solidarity economy).

- The panel’s decision will be final.

- When the project is finished, a public presentation will take place to illustrate the entire implementation process.

- The Self-Sustaining Creative Economy Award shall hold the rights to reproduction and exhibition of the winning project (and the results derived therefrom) within the framework of the artistic activities of Núria Güell and Levi Orta, and the corresponding rights in relation to the application process and the centres promoting the award.

- Participation in this contest implies acceptance of these rules.

- Proposals must be submitted in English.
