Trekvogels / Oiseaux Voyageurs
A collection of 1500 slides, taken by an unknown couple during their many holiday (or business) trips between the late fifties and the early seventies, constitute the basis for an audiovisual unit which, with the aid of these old holiday snaps and a soundtrack, recounts a new travelogue. A story about being on the road, about the search to find the ultimate holiday destination and the way in which people appropriate the world through photography. The aim of "Trekvogels / Oiseaux Voyageurs" is to establish a dialogue between picture and sound, between what we hear and think we see, between observation and interpretation, between dreams and reality and between hard facts and prejudices (or preconceptions). At weekly workshops, Flemish and Walloon children did various assignments related to the slides. The childrens memories, stories, tales and poems are incorporated in the audiotape, which is an integral part of the equipment. The project is a joint venture between La Musée de la Photographie de Charleroi, the FotoMuseum Provincie Antwerp and the art-educational organization, MUS-E Belgium.
