Jochem Vanden Ecker
How does Jochem Vanden Ecker (1976, Maaseik) open his private artistic practice to the public? This question is the starting point of a new project of FLACC. The voyager sets up a temporary workshop in Genk, which will become the home base for new wanderings. Wanderlust and nomadism are key concepts for the artist. Subtle discoveries and experiences during his walks and travels form the basis of an extensive photographic archive, a collection of artefacts and performances. The dividing line between life and artistic work is paper-thin, hence the partly autobiographical character of the artist's practice.
The artist's hybrid method requires a special environment. In a dialogue with the artist, FLACC will develop an idiosyncratic publication policy . From the continually evolving visual archive a series of prints, folders and editions will be issued and distributed. The artist also plans some on line interventions. This will result in an evocative account of recent expeditions, both in Genk and abroad (e.g. Thailand, Slovenia, the USA). Jochem Vanden Ecker studied photography at the Media and Design Academy, Genk and has lived in Antwerp the last few years.
