We think of language as the political publishing vessel that it is, our language being the first and continuous format in which we publish. For this edition of Apples & Oranges, we aim to expose the ‘process’ that goes into creating a collaborative self-published piece by holding two sessions where we meet to discuss, share and engage with participants to create content for a publication.

In this fourth episode within the series, we continue to unpack, using examples, the role language plays primarily on social media but also newspaper headlines and other media outlets in deescalating, neutralizing, banking on, and censoring.
Following these sessions, that have happened so far with different audiences and in different contexts, we will be releasing in the next six months a collaborative self-
published piece.

Over two 45-minute sessions, we will sip coffee together, debate, map out terminologies, build a glossary of terms, and come up with linguistic agency strategies for dealing with oppressive political language.

Apples and Oranges is a collaboration between CIAP & FLACC, Genk; KRIEG, PXL Mad, Zero Desk, Hasselt; B32, Maastricht; C-mine, Genk. With kind support of the Flemish Community, the city of Genk and CIAP members.
