Matchbox, an initiative of the NPA ‘vzw KUNSTWERK[t]’, is a touring exhibition through all the Flemish provinces and Brussels. Matchbox is an exhibition on wheels, centred around a meeting between a professional and a non-professional artist. At each halt, the oeuvres of two artists are exhibited; two artists between whom a certain ‘match’ or correspondence exists.
The interpretation of this meeting can take the most diverse and widely-separated forms. These can range from a ‘live’ meeting between the artists, a taped meeting, a confrontation with their oeuvres, a jointly created work of art, a work of art in which the professional (or the amateur) artist intervenes (to add or change something), a shared source of inspiration,...
Five partners are actively involved in this project: Kunstmuseum aan Zee, MuHKA, SMAK, WIELS and Z33. Together, they form the anchor points of the project in every province. Likewise, the opening day always takes place at the museum in question and is linked, locally, to a special event.
