Ellen Visschers

Ceramics play a key role in this artist’s work and yet that medium is always combined with other materials such as wood, paper, textiles, plastic, etc. By way of research, at FLAC© she explored the possibilities of working with bronze. The eventual result was closely linked to the creation process because the latter was not seen as a purely technical link between idea and image, but as an inextricable part of the creation process. The development of idea and material were inherently linked. Ellen Visschers’ images were not unambiguous and could be read in a number of different ways. Quite often there was no dividing line between the amusing and light-hearted on the one hand, and the hurtful and sarcastic on the other.
She was, however, aware of her lack of experience with bronze. It would take time to inject it with her visual language and to enrich her visual language with the material’s intrinsic possibilities.
This is just the sort of artist FLAC© caters for by offering them a unique work environment, support and guidance, and also a platform that provides scope for dialogue with other invited artists.
