As part of the City of Genk’s commissions policy, Wout Berger worked on a photographic impression of nature/culture on the site of the coalmine in Winterslag.
One of the reasons he photographs natural habitats is because of the way nature is retreating from the landscape. The landscape of the BeNeLux is a nature/culture landscape from which ‘nature’ is disappearing as a result of human intervention. Consequently, it is having to make way for the so-called ‘culture landscape’.
His photographs were shown in the INward OUTward exhibition as part of the FLAC© Image Forum project
