'Out of Place' presents the work of five foreign
women. The subject for the exhibition leads to a workplace project
and is linked to te research of 'mobility', starting from the notion
of 'displacement'. Generations of immigrants colour the faces of
communities such as in Genk. Our orientation and movement in the
world is often based on searching for a 'home'... But what is strange
for some is common for others; a stranger feeling at home in a far
country..; a local feeling strange in his own country. 'Out
of Place' explores the tensions and the relativity of 'closeness'
and 'distancing'. From five different perspectives they point out
how the 'other' and the 'self' can be influenced by a movement or
intention. What are the decisive external motors and how does the
aspect of movement reside in the mind?
