Filip Van Dingenen

Filip Van Dingenen’s oeuvre does not specifically set out to create objects as art does. He is a researcher who indirectly tries to fathom the state of our complex world. Actually, he can be seen as an anthropologist cum artist who endeavours to chart the world rather more insightfully through story and research. Filip Van Dingenen takes as his starting point socially interesting news items and extrapolates them into broader ideas so that all the information that was sought and ‘experienced’ becomes an inherent and visible part of the project. He is fascinated by the artificial constructions people have created to escape everyday reality. These are often personal aspects of artificiality, like the explosive combination of ideological and (minor) human motives that make the exuberant ‘façade culture’ of places like Las Vegas, Disneyland or other tourist destinations great.
