Catriona Leahy & Katsutoshi Yuasa
Opening exhibition on Friday 5 September at 20.00
We cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition Suspended Temporality by Katsutoshi Yuasa (JP) and Catriona Leahy (IE) in the C-Mine cultuurcentrum (Genk). Together with the City of Genk and the C-Mine cultuurcentrum, FLACC invited Katsutoshi Yuasa and Catriona Leahy for a work period in Genk. Both artists reflect on the ever-changing economical situation in Genk and its impact on cultural phenomena. Catriona and Katsutoshi have a background in graphic arts and have a keen interest in the remains of cultural phenomena that have since lost their place in contemporary society. These can be both visual relics such as buildings whose function has been made redundant, but also old traditions that are slowly disappearing. Both artists spent several months in Genk drawing parallels between the situation in Genk and respectively Ireland and Japan. The development and demise of the coal mines, that shapes the city so much in the previous century, take a central place in the realised works. The realised works, together with older works, will be exhibited in the C-Mine cultuurcentrum.
The official opening of the exhibition is on Friday 5 September 2014 at 20.00 and the show runs till 31 October 2014.
The exhibition is open to visitors every day between 10.00 and 17.00. Free entrance.
